They
ask the question as write the treatment, management or approach to any disease
condition.
The
narrowest of the three is treatment where they just want to know how you treat
the patient. Here you can write the drug therapy that is being used. But still
this does not mean CLASSIFY the drug
used in the condition. If any question says classify the drug that’s fair
enough. But, treatment is not just giving any drug to patient.
TREATMENT is a holistic thing. The immediate life
saving treatment comes under it, similarly managing the condition proper in the
hospital setting, in the home setting and preventing complication in the future
has also to be included in it. Similarly, the non medical parts or the general measures that you need the patient to know or you should advise such as lifestyle changes, dietary changes, physiotherapy to be provided to the patient
should be mentioned in the treatment.
MANAGEMENT should include basic information to the
disease like the definition and causes. But the main strategy to writing a
management is to include the investigation, how it is done and how it
differentiates the condition from the rest. The investigation to identify the risk factors and the investigations to rule out the complication. How the
disease can be treated, what can be done to prevent worse outcomes and what
general measures have to be adopted.
The
broadest of the three is APPROACH where you have to demonstrate how you approach (Basically to a symptom and
sometimes disease). So here you have to start with history of the patient and
then elaborate how you can rule out its differential diagnoses from the
history. Similarly in clinical examination what else favors your condition or
presence of what else rules out the being of the condition. Then you start with
how you treat the disease. So approach basically includes management and
treatment part within itself.
